Academic Published Author

I am a historian of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. My research primarily focuses on the history of gender and sexuality, and I have published articles on prostitution, venereal diseases, and pornography in the Russian imperial and Soviet contexts. I'm particularly interested in examining how ordinary Russian imperial subjects and Soviet citizens experienced, and resisted, state policies related to sexuality across the twentieth century. My first book, Policing Prostitution: Regulating the Lower Classes in Late Imperial Russia, was published by Oxford University Press in 2021.

I received my PhD from the University of Nottingham in 2017 and I am currently based at Durham University.
